This Term's Topic is:

To support our learning about this topic, our class text will be:

We will be learning all about electricity: identifying electrical products; constructing simple circuits; identifying whether components will work or not; investigating the use of switches and recognising some common conductors and insulators.

Alongside this, in our English work, we will be reading and writing our own spooky poetry, writing explanations for how our own inventions work and creating our own spooky descriptions and diary entries.

Our Design and Technology project is to design and make a torch, suitable for ghost hunting or reading spooky stories at night!

REMINDER: Recently, the children have been invited to play on the Prodigy website where they will find games based on the mathematical concepts they have been learning in class. The games automatically adjust to support or extend their learning so it should be an enjoyable way to improve everyone's understanding. If you experience any problems in accessing the website please speak to Mrs.Cook.

In Year 4, your child will have the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument.  Every Thursday throughout the year, a teacher will come in from the 'Love Music Trust' to teach the whole class to play a brass instrument and the children will have the opportunity to give some performances later in the year.

P.E. will take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays.  This half term we will be doing Tennis and Cricket .  Fit4 15 takes place everyday.  Please ensure your child's P.E. kit is in school at all times.

Your  child will receive weekly Maths and spellings homework. This includes playing on TT Rockstars and Spelling Shed at least 3 times a week.   We will also set a 'topic' homework, to be handed in the last week of term.

Year 4 pupils need to learn all of their times tables by the end of the year as they will be tested on their quick recall of all facts up to 12 x 12. To help them learn the facts in a fun and memorable way, we have attached a list of websites with times tables set to the tune of modern pop songs. Please encourage your child to listen, sing and learn!

Reading is so important to your child's education and can be so much fun!   Your child will be expected to read a minimum of three times a week and to record this is their Reading Record.

Should you have any queries or concerns throughout the year, please feel free to come and see us before or after school; our door is always open!
