Attainment and assessment (including latest Statutory Assessment Data)

How do I know how well my child is doing?

We feel it is essential that parents know how their children are doing and what they need to do to improve. This information is discussed with the children in various ways on an ongoing basis so that the child too knows how well they are doing and what they need to do to improve.

There are two formal parents’ evenings each year, one early in the Autumn term, one in the Spring term and a formal written report is sent home towards the end of the Summer term. Parents can also see teachers, the Key Stage lead, the Headteacher and Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) at any time if they need further information or updates.

Assessment is seen as an essential part of learning and teaching and is an ongoing process. Day to day assessments are carried out mainly through marking and questioning and there are regular end of unit assessments. There are, however, more formal and statutory assessments and these include:

  • Reading Tests
  • Spelling Tests
  • Foundation Stage Profile
  • National Curriculum Tests
  • Maths Tests
  • Year 1 Phonics Screening Test

Early Learning Goals have been devised forthe period from age 3 to the end of the reception year. At Hollinhey, during the first year, the reception class teacher carries out a series of assessments, which becomes a child’s ‘Foundation Stage Profile’.

We follow the requirements of current legislation regarding National Curriculum assessment and children are formally assessed at the end of key stage 1 (year two) and key stage 2 (year six). There were no formal assessments undertaken in 2020 due to the Covid 19 Pandemic and the partial closing of schools.

In addition, children in years 3, 4,  5 and 6 take other assessments including tests in Reading, Spelling Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG) and mathematics throughout the year. The results of these assessments help to inform Teacher assessment. All pupils are tracked throughout the year in order to determine attainment and progress.

At Hollinhey we strive to ensure all the children achieve their full potential in all aspects of school life so that they leave our school with the skills they need in order to succeed academically, socially and emotionally. We want our children to leave us with a love and passion for learning.
