Principles of the Hollinhey Curriculum

  • The Hollinhey pupil is at the centre of the curriculum
  • The Hollinhey Curriculum reflects the stages of development, the ages, interests and experiences of the Hollinhey pupil
  • It is designed to enthuse, stimulate, delight and encourage pupils’ love of learning
  • It promotes physical, social, emotional, spiritual and moral well-being
  • It is rooted in our locality with opportunities to explore the wider world in which the pupils will experience through their lives
  • It provides challenge and opportunity for all pupils to experience excellence
  • It evokes independence, responsibility and resilience
  • It conforms to the Statutory Curriculum 2014

Aims of the Hollinhey Curriculum for all Hollinhey pupils

  • To provide a stimulating, relevant, broad set of learning experiences
  • To ensure achievement and progression
  • To develop a life-long love of learning
  • To develop skills and understanding of the world in which Hollinhey pupils live and contribute to
  • To establish basic educational needs of listening, speaking, reading, writing, questioning and empathising
  • To celebrate personal success and the achievements of others
  • To maximise the local environment in order to provide opportunities for learning
  • To embed knowledge and skills learnt so that they can be applied in different contexts and situations
  • To ensure Hollinhey pupils are safe, secure, confident, environmentally and emotionally aware learners and citizens

In practice the Hollinhey Curriculum has:

  • Cross –curricular focus with subject specific links including Maths, English & Science
  • Discrete teaching of key basic skills
  • Been organised by Year Groups (Rec/EYFS, Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4, Y5, Y6)
  • Some themes may be whole Key Stage or even Whole School
  • Curriculum Weeks planned in as appropriate (Sports, Book, My Money, NSEW, Healthy Schools etc)
  • Local & National Events planned in as appropriate (e.g. Barnaby, Commemoration of the First World War)
  • Hollinhey- specific Events and Activities planned in as appropriate (e.g. Charles & Winnifrid Tunnicliffe Art Memorial Competition & Presentation, Harvest Festival, Christmas Events, Languages Day)
  • Links with other schools (Macclesfield Academy Cluster, Silk Alliance, Teaching Schools Alliance, Schools Sports Partnership)
  • Provision for off-site trips to complement learning (Day trips & Residentials)
  • Planned use of the Hollinhey environment & grounds
  • included the Non-Statutory Subjects of PSHCE, Kiva Anti-Bullying Programme and Sex & Relationships embedded throughout the Hollinhey Curriculum
  • Opportunities to widen experiences through visitors and links with the local community and businesses
