Welcome to Hollinhey Reception class. Miss Holland is the class teacher and Mrs Wood and Miss McNicol (M-W) and Miss Lancaster (Th-F) are the teaching assistant. Together, we have a great time at school, learning and having fun. Miss Bewers will take the class on a Friday morning, while Miss Holland is on PPA.

The first year in school is an exciting one for all. We look forward to welcoming them to our school community and helping them settle in happily.

On this website you will find information about our school. Please don’t forget to keep up to date with ‘Tapestry’ we will be putting homework onto this during our first half term. We will also be using ‘Purple Mash’ the log in for this will be provided in your child’s reading diary.

As ever, if you have any questions please email: or

Summer 1: THe Very Hungry Caterpillar

We will be focusing on the book:

The Very Hungry Caterpillar [Board Book]: Carle, Eric, Carle, Eric: Books

This will go alongside our topic 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar.' We will also be learning about:

  • Different types of mini-beasts.
  • The lifecycle of a butterfly. We will have some special guests to watch grow and change.
  • Different habitats of mini-beasts.

Below you will find a list of all the things your child will need in school EVERYDAY. Please Ensure ALL of their belongings are named clearly.

  • A full school uniform (All available from CLASSWORX school wear)
  • A Hollinhey book bag (the one without a strap is perfect)
  • A waterproof coat
  • A pair of wellies that will be kept in school
  • A water bottle with a non-spill lid (not a screw top)
  • A healthy snack for morning break

During the afternoon, all children will be provided with a piece of fruit. We encourage all children to at least try this fruit and find that this really helps get into healthy routines and habits. The Government also provides a free drink of milk for all children under the age of 5.

General reminders

PE in Reception is on a Tuesday morning. To avoid bringing lots of things to and from school, we ask that on Tuesdays, children come to school dressed in their PE kit. We will head outside even if it is cold so make sure you are warm enough!

Reading books will be changed twice a week, on a Tuesday and a Friday. Each child will have two reading records, which will be rotated between home and school on a weekly basis. Please sign your child's reading record when you listen to them read and we will do the same in school. On a Friday, we will swap reading records for the following week.

Book bags

Book bags are allowed from September, however we would like to keep the moving of items between home and school as infrequent as possible. If children come to school with a book bag, please ensure the only things the bag contains are lunch/snack, water bottles and reading books/reading records on Tuesday and Friday.

Homework for this half term will be set online. It will be set on a Wednesday to be completed by the following Monday.
