A Safe, Secure and Happy Learning Environment

Nursery is the first stage of the Early Years Foundation Stage and the first stage of your child’s education.  We follow the statutory framework to ensure your children are safe, happy and develop as life long learners. The EYFS is the statutory framework for all children from birth to age five, supporting learning and development through play, exploration, and real-life experience.

Mission Statement

At Hollinhey Nursery we ensure that all our children feel safe, secure and loved, in order for them to thrive in all areas of their learning and leave us with confidence, self worth and independence ready to welcome their next chapter in their learning journey with excitement and enthusiasm to learn.

Our Nursery Team

At Hollinhey we aim to provide a happy, secure, friendly, stimulating environment where children learn and have fun together, supported by an enthusiastic and professional staff team. Our staff members are experienced, caring and highly dedicated individuals whose understanding of the children and the community to which they belong is unquestionable. They strive to ensure that each child enjoys being a part of the Hollinhey 'family'. Additionally, the professionalism of the staff enables parents to feel confident about their ability to provide the best possible care and education for the children entrusted into their charge.

Our Nursery

Activities are planned and delivered to support your child’s current level of development and to encourage them to be creative and independent learners whilst following their own unique interests.

Our Nursery pre-school offers children a broad range of interesting and educational activities within the grounds of the Primary School and beyond. These can include walks around the village, visits to the nearby playground and outings to local amenities. The children also enjoy visits from the local police, the fire brigade and parents who come in and talk about their occupations.

This is a time for new beginnings, making friends and learning lots of wonderful experiences and opportunities for learning and growing. In the Nursery, we aim to build upon all the good work you have already done with your child during their early years. Developing your child’s Personal, Social and Emotional skills will help them to feel confident and to achieve their full potential in all areas of learning.

Our Learning

Our Curriculum Intent- Each child will feel safe, secure and loved at Hollinhey Nursery, enabling them to gain confidence and independence.

Our curriculum has been devised to meet the needs of the children and the learning requirements of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. We also use ‘Development Matters’ the non-statutory curriculum guidance. Our curriculum is sequenced to ensure all children make progress and are ready for the next stage of their education.

Links to the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage and the Development Matters documents can be found below:

The Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (from 1st Sept 2025)

Development Matters

Implementation -We ensure that our curriculum meets the needs of all children by:

  • Each child having a named key worker to build a strong trusting relationship with.
  • Providing Settling in sessions for each child and Family. (The number of these is dependent on the family and child’s needs)
  • All about me activity for the family to do together.
  • Starting points document which Key worker and family carry out together.
  • 6 week catch up meeting with parents after initial start date.
  • Treasure boxes for each child to share with friends and staff.
  • ongoing observation and assessments through shared interactions, play and activities.
  • Open door policy
  • Parents evenings, information evenings, open days.
  • Stay and play.
  • Staff supervisions, CPD, Team meetings and Appraisals

Characteristics of Effective Learning

  • Characteristics of Effective Learning are embedded through all areas of learning … creating powerful learners and thinkers.

    Playing and Exploring
Children investigate and experience things and ‘have a go’.

    Active Learning
Children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties and enjoy achievements.

    Creating and Thinking Critically
Children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas and develop strategies for doing things.

Teamwork

Here at Hollinhey Nursery we believe Team work really does make the dreamwork and working together with you to support your children is our upmost priority. Some ways in which we ensure this are:

Key person system- Your child will be assigned a key person when they start with us, providing that special someone to form a close nurturing relationship with.

Mystery readers- A member of your family is welcomed into Nursery to share their favourite book with the children, the children have no idea who it is and the excitement reaches fever pitch when the “mystery” person arrives. Please let us know if you would like to do this!

Our Parent Partnership area- Here you will find support packs for those life events such as Potty training, Moving house, A new baby. As well as a lending library where your little one can borrow books and a cuddly friend to share a story with at home.

Parents meetings- Alongside our bi annual parents evenings we also hold a “catch up meeting” when your little one has been with us for 6-8 weeks, giving yourselves and your child’s key person the opportunity to share thoughts on how your child is settling.

Class dojo- This is a secure online platform which all parents are invited to join, it provides the opportunity for us to share with you all the fun and learning we have accessed as well as enabling you to share special moments and communicate with us in a safe and secure way, more information can be found here…
