We have a fun-filled half term ahead of us in Reception and I can't wait to welcome you all back!

In our classroom this half term is myself (Miss Baggs), Mrs Wood, Mrs Rance and Miss Heathcote. Mrs Bewers will take the class on a Friday morning and Friday afternoon whilst Miss Baggs is on PPA. Together, we have a wonderful time at school, learning and having fun.

This half term our theme is... The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

We will be learning all about the life cycle of a butterfly! In our classroom, we will have a special visit from some very hungry caterpillars. We will watch them grow, pass through the stages of the life cycle and be lucky enough to experience them turning into butterflies. When they are strong enough, we will release them into the big wide world.

We will continue to explore the natural world around us and make observations of the things we see. As the weather begins to brighten up (hopefully) we will spend even more time in our outdoor area and forest school - getting mucky and experiencing nature first hand!

As a class, we will enjoy the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and explore the importance of healthy food choices. I wonder if the hunry caterpillar made healthy choices?

Our "Bug Cafe" role play will get the children serving up interesting insect dishes such as: spider soup, worm wellington pie and caterpillar custard tarts.

On our school website you will find information about our school. Please don’t forget to keep up to date with ‘Tapestry’ as we will be putting pictures on here of different activities that your child has been up to during their time in reception.

One of our favourite things to do is "show and tell" . finding out what our class friends have been up too and asking questions. So, please feel free to upload your own pictures onto Tapestry aswell.

We will also be using ‘Purple Mash’. The log in for this will be provided in your child’s reading diary.

Equipment:

Below you will find a list of all the things your child will need in school EVERYDAY. Please Ensure ALL of their belongings are named clearly.

  • A full school uniform (All available from CLASSWORX school wear)
  • A Hollinhey book bag (the one without a strap is perfect)
  • A waterproof coat
  • A pair of wellies that will be kept in school
  • A water bottle with a non-spill lid (not a screw top)
  • A healthy snack for morning break

During the afternoon, all children will be provided with a piece of fruit. We encourage all children to at least try this fruit and find that this really helps get into healthy routines and habits. The Government also provides a free drink of milk for all children under the age of 5.

General Reminders:

PE

PE in Reception is on a Tuesday morning and a Thursday afternoon. To avoid bringing lots of things to and from school, we ask that on Tuesday's and Thursday's children come to school dressed in their PE kit. We will head outside as much as possible so please make sure children have the right clothing with them to be warm enough!

Reading

Reading books will be changed twice a week, on a Tuesday and a Friday. Each child will have a reading record. Please sign your child's reading record when you listen to them read and we will do the same in school. These need to be brought into school everyday.

Taking the time to read with your child everyday will have a huge impact on their learning and progress. Reading to them as well as listening to them read, is equally as important as this will allow them to hear how experienced readers read.

Homework

Homework for this half term will be set online or popped inside their yellow homework folders. It will be set on a Wednesday to be completed by the following Monday. Please ensure your child's yellow folder is brought into school every Monday.

Forest School

This half term, Reception will be enjoying Forest School on a Friday afternoon with Mrs Rowley! They will be getting mucky whilst exploring the forest and enjoying the outdoors. So, we ask that children bring in a spare change of clothes (that you don't mind them getting dirty), wellies (unless they are already on our trolley or an all-in-one suit! These items only need to be brought in on a Friday morning and they will be sent home with them the same day.

Keeping your child safe and happy is the upmost important thing so please don't hesitate to send me an email or talk to me at the beginning or end of the day. I will always find time to listen and help if I can.
