 In our classroom this year is myself (Miss Holland) and Miss Rose (M-F), Mrs Rowley will take the class on a Wednesday afternoon whilst I have PPA, she will also take the class every other Wednesday morning. Together, we have a wonderful time at school, learning and having fun.

This half term our theme is... On the Farm

Have a look what we will be covering during this half term...

Literacy:

Our focus book this half term will be: The Little Red Hen. We will be naming and writing the characters in the story and we will then progress to thinking about rhyming words and recording words that rhyme with hen. We will be continuing to work on our fine and gross motor skills and this will help us with our handwriting. In phonics we are working on: retaining, reading and writing our set 1 sounds and we will begin to learn the special friends. (ch, sh, th, qu, ng & nk)

Maths:

This half term we will continue to follow NCETM mastering number and we will be covering: 

• comparison
• counting 
• composition 

Our shape, space and measure focus will be: measure.

PSED: 

This half terms focus will be our school rules and we will focus on a different one each week.

PE:

PE this half term will be Tuesday and Friday and this will include our forest school sessions. During our PE session we will be building on our: throwing, catching and aiming.

Theme:

Our theme for the half term is: on the farm. We will be exploring what life is like on the farm and how to look after and care for animals, including humans. We will also be creating our own map of a farm and learning what we use a map for.

We have lots of different areas in our classroom that we can explore. Such as: sand, water, bug cafe (role play), home corner, reading area, maths zone, small world and lots more.

Equipment:

Below you will find a list of all the things your child will need in school EVERYDAY. Please Ensure ALL of their belongings are named clearly. 

• A full school uniform (All available from CLASSWORX school wear)
• A Hollinhey book bag (the one without a strap is perfect)
• A waterproof coat
• A pair of wellies that will be kept in school
• A water bottle with a non-spill lid (not a screw top)
• A healthy snack for morning break

During the afternoon, all children will be provided with a piece of fruit. We encourage all children to at least try this fruit and find that this really helps get into healthy routines and habits. The Government also provides a free drink of milk for all children under the age of 5.

General Reminders:

PE

PE in Reception is on a Tuesday and Friday To avoid bringing lots of things to and from school we as that children come to school dressed in their PE kit. We will head outside as much as possible so please make sure children have the right clothing with them to be warm enough!

Reading

Reading books will be changed twice a week, on a Tuesday and a Friday. Each child will have a reading record. Please sign your child's reading record when you listen to them read and we will do the same in school. These need to be brought into school everyday.

Taking the time to read with your child everyday will have a huge impact on their learning and progress. Reading to them as well as listening to them read, is equally as important as this will allow them to hear how experienced readers read.

Homework

Homework for this half term will be placed inside their yellow homework folders. It will be set on a Wednesday to be completed by the following Monday. Please ensure your child's yellow folder is brought into school every Monday.

Keeping your child safe and happy is the upmost important thing so please don't hesitate to send me an email or talk to me at the beginning or end of the day. I will always find time to listen and help if I can.
