Introduction, Values, Aims and Ethos

Hollinhey was opened in 1970; the building and grounds provide us with excellent opportunities for a wide range of activities. Inside we have a central hall, seven large classrooms, three learning bays, a library and an ICT suite. The suite allows every child access to a computer so that whole class teaching and learning of ICT can take place effectively.  Every classroom has two or three computers and an LED interactive multi-touch display screen.

We have disabled access through the majority of outside doors.  The school is on one level internally with wide doorways.  We have disabled parking and disabled toilet. .

Outside we are very fortunate to have two large playgrounds, two climbing frames, a "quiet area" a willow tunnel, an outdoor stage and wildlife viewing platform, a wild area, a study centre, a children’s garden and an enclosed environmental area. The whole school is set in well maintained grounds and is surrounded by beautiful countryside.

Specialisms

We have many other specialisms besides Art of which we are very proud and that make Hollinhey exceptional. On Friday afternoons in Key Stage 2 the children have the opportunity to choose from a wide range of clubs. These clubs are small groups of mixed age pupils and include activities such as orienteering, den building, survival skills, shadow puppets, cookery, engineering and film making etc. Hollinhey is well known for the opportunities offered in music. We have two choirs, a band, peripatetic teachers teach violin and woodwind and every year 4 child learns to play an instrument, free of charge, through Wider Opportunities. The children regularly perform in assembly and for the local community. Our Modern Foreign Language teaching is of a very high standard and every year we have a day to celebrate different languages. We also provide a huge range of extra-curricular clubs including dance, chess, ICT and a wide range of sports clubs such as cross-country, football, netball, rounders, lacrosse, cricket and rugby.
